Where is God?
"Where is God?
Search for Him through the crowded city streets. Seek Him in the peaceful countryside. Penetrate into the nucleus of the atom. Follow the curve of space. Go to the end of time. He will be there. Wherever you are God is. Wherever you go God goes.
Know, you who seek Him, that He seeks you more steadfastly. He seeks you. He loves you. He will not let you be. You could not walk alone, not for a moment, not in the darkest night. Though you stretched not out your hand, yet your hand would be in His. Though you held not out your heart, yet His heart would enfold you."
~ The Land is Bright by James Willet Freeman
Recently, I happened upon this little booklet amongst my library of books. Stamped in the front of it are the words Unity Center of Practical Christianity. I found this booklet years ago in Bill's mother's belongings after she had passed away. I was intrigued by the spirituality of a woman that I could only get to know in a limited way due to her dementia. When Bill and I started dating, his mother was already quite confused and unable to express herself in words. However, I knew that she had a warm and kind heart the moment that we met and immediately felt a bond of connection with her. Years later, when I came across some of her poetry and this little booklet, I was touched by her deep spirituality.
There is something comforting about the fact that these beautiful words have been passed down from Bill's mother. I feel as if she is extending loving compassion to me from the Place where she now abides. I am grateful for the reminder that God's nearness is not contingent upon anything that we do or don't do. Instead, God reaches out and holds us tightly by the hand, never letting us go and forever enfolds us with His heart of love.
